ECOG RESEARCH AND EDUCATION YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD - 2010

Every year ECOG awards a member who is recommended by his or her institution as an outstanding leader. The purpose of this award is to recognize young investigators who have made substantial scientific or administrative contributions to ECOG. Any ECOG member may make nominations for this award. The award recipient was named at the General Session of ECOG's Spring meeting. The ECOG Young Investigator Award for 2010 went to Ahmad, Tarhini, MD from the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. He was recommended by Dr. Kirkwood.

Previous winner: The winner of the ECOG Young Investigator Award for 2009 was Athanassios Argiris, MD from the University of Pittsburgh

ECOG Research and Education Foundation - Paul Carbone, MD Fellowship Award - 2010
The Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) Research and Education Foundation is pleased to announce Neeta Kiran Venepalli, MD from Vanderbilt University Medical Center is the Paul Carbone, MD Fellowship 2010 award recipient. Her project title was: A Prospective Clinical Trial evaluating Endothelial Dysfunction and Endothelial Progenitor Cell Levels as Potential Biomarkers for Bevacizumab Related Toxicities.

One award is given annually with a total funding award of $25,000, plus funding for the awardee to attend the Spring ECOG Group Meeting (where the award recipient is announced). Funding began on July 1st.

Previous winner: The Paul Carbone, MD Fellowship Award for 2009 was presented to Christina Derleth, MD from Vanderbilt University

ECOG 10th Annual ECOG/Sanofi-Aventis Oncology Young Investigator Symposium - 2010
ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The purpose of this annual symposium is to engage promising young clinical investigators in cooperative group clinical research. Individuals who meet the criteria outlined below are invited to submit an abstract for presentation at the fall ECOG meeting, which will take place on November 5 - 7, 2010, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The symposium will take place between 8:00-10:00 AM on Saturday, November 6, 2010*.

Up to 20 abstracts will be selected for oral or poster presentation. Awardees will receive a travel grant to attend the meeting. Participation in other meeting sessions by awardees is highly encouraged, and a meeting agenda will be distributed at the time of the award notice to facilitate planning.

Individuals are eligible to submit an abstract if the following criteria are met:

  • M.D., Ph.D, R.N, or other professional engaged in cancer-related research, or non-cancer related research that has application to cancer biology, prevention, screening, diagnosis, or treatment
  • Less than 10 years since the completion of post-graduate training, or currently in post-graduate training
  • Membership or affiliation with ECOG is encouraged, but not required
  • The topic may be involve clinical, translational, or basic science research; preference will be given to clinical and translational research
  • Abstract Submission Form (requires Microsoft Word)
  • Abstracts should be emailed and faxed no later than Monday, October 4th, 2010 at midnight (eastern time) to:
